Introducing our new medical plan, Balance+
MESSA Balance+ is a unique health plan that features a health savings account (HSA) with the lowest deductible allowed by the IRS for an HSA-eligible plan while offering a lower premium and out-of-pocket maximum for members. Balance+ also includes MESSA’s supplemental plans: Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity plans.
This plan will be available beginning January 1, 2024. Keep an eye out on messa.org or reach out to your Field Representative for more information.
New dependents now need their SSN in the system within 2 months of birth
When entering a new dependent, who is under the age of one year old, an SSN will now be required within 2 months of birth instead of 1 year. This is because MESSA files form 1095-B with the IRS to report every individual covered by a medical plan. The IRS requires MESSA to obtain social security numbers for covered employees and dependents so they can match the 1095 information with employee’s tax return information. Twice a year we send communication to the employees who have missing dependent social security numbers and to mitigate the number of letters that are sent, the time to report the SSN has been shortened to two months. Not providing a social security number could result in inaccurate or inactive coverage with our various carriers.
New bite guard rules from Delta Dental
Delta Dental will be updating their limitation of occlusal guards from once per lifetime to once per 5 years. This will automatically be added on to all groups beginning January 1, 2024, as a standard benefit increase.
