Annual Verification Process for Overage Dependents

For employers who participate in our Overage Dependent process, MESSA will mail a letter to members with an overage dependent on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. In order for an overage dependent to continue insurance coverage into 2027, members must take action and verify the eligibility for their dependent who may:

  • Certify with a severe physical and/or intellectual impairment, or
  • Be a full-time student in 2027

The letter instructs members to go to messa.org, log in to MyMESSA, click on the Dependent Verification link and complete the online questionnaire. Based on the answers provided, our system will determine if coverage will continue into 2027 or if it will terminate. Members receive an immediate response, as well as an email for their files. The deadline to complete the online questionnaire is November 27, 2026.

Reminder: Do Not Save Files from the Business Administration Center

Please do not save any documents from the Business Administration Center to your personal files for future use. We strive to update those documents frequently, and using outdated versions may result in disability or life insurance claims being delayed. When a document is required, please get it directly from the Business Administration Center.

Beneficiary Updates

Open enrollment is the perfect time to encourage your employees to review and update their beneficiaries. It is important to have updated beneficiaries for employees who have an HSA and/or life insurance policy so that should something happen, their family will more easily receive the payout.

If you have any questions about available Life Insurance policies through MESSA, we have a booklet available.

MESSA Covers Routine Vaccines and Immunizations

It’s the start of the school year, which typically means germs and sickness spreading in your schools. MESSA health plans cover routine vaccines and immunizations for your employees. When your employees get vaccinated, they protect themselves, family, students and coworkers against easily preventable illnesses.

All MESSA plans fully cover routine vaccines and immunizations for members and covered dependents, including:

  • COVID-19
  • Flu and pneumonia
  • Tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap)
  • Tetanus and diphtheria (Td)
  • Measles, mumps and rubella (MMR)
  • Shingles

Members are not responsible for paying a deductible, copayment or coinsurance if they go to an in-network provider, participating pharmacy or local health department. To find a vaccine provider, visit vaccines.gov or call 2-1-1.

For questions, members can call our MESSA Member Service Center at 800-336-0013.
