1095-B tax forms

Tax form 1095-B provides proof that an employee and their family had health insurance during the year.

Beginning with the 2019 tax year, the government no longer requires tax form 1095-B to be filed with individual tax returns. This continues to be the case for the 2020 tax year. Therefore, a 1095-B will be provided upon request only.

If an employee would like a copy of their 1095-B, they may submit a request as follows:

  • Call MESSA Member Services at 800.336.0013
  • Send a secure message via their MyMESSA account
  • Mail a request to MESSA, Attn: Member Services, 1475 Kendale Blvd., P.O. Box 2560, East Lansing, MI 48826.

If you, as an employer, need to request a copy of an employee’s 1095-B, call MESSA Group Services at 888.888.4167, ext. 7922.

Note: Employers are still required to provide employees with tax form 1095-C.


HSA monthly administration fee

MESSA ABC is a high-deductible health plan that saves you money through lower premiums and is MESSA’s only medical plan that is compatible with a tax-saving health savings account (HSA). As an extra benefit, on behalf of our members, MESSA pays the monthly HSA account administration fee assessed by our HSA partner, HealthEquity.

When a member moves from MESSA ABC to a different MESSA medical, or cash-in-lieu plan, they are able to keep their HSA to pay for medical expenses; however, the member is accessed a monthly administration fee when their HSA balance falls below $2,500.


MESSA user forum now available

MESSA is excited to announce the relaunch of our online User Forum. This easy-to-use tool provides employers the opportunity to connect, share and communicate with one another regarding topics in benefits administration and human resources.
